Support for Small Businesses
The Central Park of Jipijapa is home to the iconic “Hat” which is now managed by La Prosperina, is key to enabling local entrepreneurs to bring their products to market.
Jipijapa (approximately 71,000 inhabitants) is plagued by persistent poverty. But it also is home to a number of people anxious to start their own businesses. La Prosperina wants to help.
Current Status
A study conducted on the prevalence of malnutrition in infants who attended the health center of Jipijapa canton in the period 2017-2019 among 235 children age 0 to 9, showed that 47.2% had a diagnosis of malnutrition. This problem has intensified during the COVID- 19 pandemic in the whole of Ecuador.
Objective
To lift members of the local population by giving them a place to thrive.
We will offer retail space and promotional support to small businesspeople to help them grow their businesses and break the cycle of poverty that prevails in the Jipijapa area.
The Hat at Central Park
“The Hat” consists of 6? retail sales stalls, one of which is occupied by our own Pro Café. Surrounded by the lovely park grounds with tables and chairs, The Hat is a natural meeting place which draws locals and visitors all year round. The Café features products from several local small vendors, and shares retail space with others. La Prosperina has a unique arrangement with the local government to rejuvenate the formerly neglected building.
